St. Augustine, FL – Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) announced today that he will introduce a constitutional amendment to limit the number of terms that members of Congress may serve. If adopted, members of the House could serve no more than three terms and Senators no more than two. Because the term limits movement has been dormant in Congress, the limits in the proposed amendment phase-in as members leave office, thereby making enactment plausible.

“Too many in Washington display a ruling class mentality and congressional term limits would go a long way towards restoring the citizen-legislator ethos of the Founding Fathers,” DeSantis said. “Americans of all political background overwhelmingly support term limits, yet term limits have floundered in Congress. An approach that phases in congressional term limits reconciles the self-interest of members of Congress with the public’s desire to see these changes enacted and gives us the best chance to make term limits a reality.”

DeSantis penned an op-ed for the Daily Signal outlining why his proposal to implement term limits will have greater success than previous proposals.

Since taking office, DeSantis has introduced vital reforms to hold Congress accountable to the American people. DeSantis previously introduced the No Exemption for Washington from ObamaCare Act as well as the End Pensions in Congress (EPIC) Act.
