Former Speaker John Boehner has left public office, but that hasn't ended his war of words with GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz.

Last week, Cruz, a Texas senator and Tea Party favorite, called Boehner’s sweeping bipartisan budget deal a “golden parachute” for the departing Speaker and “a slap in the face to conservatives.”

Boehner, an Ohio Republican, responded in kind Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“That’s total nonsense,” Boehner replied, adding that the agreement includes entitlement reforms, more money for national defense and other spending cuts.

The two Republicans have repeatedly tangled in the past, often calling each other names. At a closed-door fundraiser earlier this year, Boehner reportedly called Cruz a “jackass.”
